In absence of eTouch Content Migration Tool, the process of migrating data from one source to another can be extremely tricky and time consuming in manual operations. With CMT, the process is fast, simple, error free and easy to modify as needed. CMT carries out an automated process of content migration for disassembling, importing and assigning content properties and categories for existing web pages to populate the repository, and validate the resulting content in terms of site structure, taxonomy and content integrity.

The Process Flow:

• Local Site Deployment: Original content may be stored in different file formats over the web and hence the first activity carried out in migration is deploying a local copy of the site. Once the content is deployed at local server, then content analysis is carried out. By analyzing the volume and structure of the content, the authorizing templates are defined in CMS. Apart from this, metadata requirements for the site are also analyzed.

• Redefinition of Information Architecture (IA) and Taxonomy: IA defines the navigation pattern and folder structure of the website and Taxonomy defines the semantic hierarchy of the content stored i.e. CMS. In this process, Content Migration Tool provides re-definition of IA through easy to use interface. User can define new IA locations, map the content to these locations, move folders from one location to another and also redesign the website. CMT provides an easy to use interface for redefinition of IA. CMT provides an extensive reporting and provisions to rectify errors without any technical assistance.

• Content Disassembly or Extraction: Depending on the source of web content and structuredness of the content, the content is identified and disassembled to separate it from the presentation layouts. This disassembled content can be restructured and given a new look and feel. CMT carries out content extraction based on user input for identification of content boundaries.

• Import of content and metadata into CMS: Final step involved in Content Migration is import the content in the target Content Management System (CMS). The disassembled content is mapped to CMS Authoring Template. Each block of content is mapped to the properties of the authoring template. The eTouch CMS Import Framework provides all the required handlers and configuration files to seamlessly import Content within the eTouch CMS. In addition to the above, metadata is also imported into the CMS. CMT provides a wrapper on the CMS Import command line tool and converts it into a web application.

• Reporting: CMT provides extensive reporting for each of the above phases. Besides reporting, logs are also generated for each of the phases. CMT provides report on status of file such as whether Content has been extracted successfully or not. It provides which pattern has extracted the Content and ratio of extracted Content to original Content. In addition to that user can also view the Htmls from the report pages. In case of errors, user can always revert files from Report UI.
